Penryn Celebrates 800 Years
This year marks a particularly important milestone in the Towns history as it reaches 800 years since Bishop Simon of Exeter founded the 'Borough', of Penryn. There are already a number of events and projects being organised to mark the occasion including -
The Penryn Production - A community Cornish mystery play with elements which will be spread throughout Penryn; combining theatre, music, spoken work, as part of Penryn 800. An initial meeting for anyone interested in this will take place on January 28th at Swamp Arts Cafe, 10 Lower Market St, Penryn, TR10 8BG at 7.30pm. Please do head along and get involved. The Dead 'Ryners Society- Chaz Wenmoth, (Penryn Museum), is organising a crowd of character's from Penryn's history to mingle at key events throughout the year. The Big Borough Bake Off - Penryn Pop-Up, Dave M Cakes Design & Visit Penryn has teamed up to bring an exciting array of competitive cake baking, baking demonstrations from some top baking experts, including the Great British Bakes Off's Glenn Cosby and Penryn's very own award winning baker Dave Mason. There will also be a pop-up food festival and refreshment's throughout the day. The Town Council have earmarked a budget of £15,000 for the year of celebrations and the Penryn Week Committee have taken on the role of supporting projects and events. For futher information on the budget and/or to register your event please contact the Town Council 01326 373 086
